Hey friends,
According to the 2014 Myanmar Population and Housing census, about twenty seven percent of the total population are aged between ten and fourteen. We can experience changes in physical and mental during this adolescent period. Sometimes, these changes become a force that push us to try or do things that are risky or harmful to us. Getting an unwanted pregnancy, and getting infected with sexually transmitted diseases are a few of these risky behaviors that can consequently create health related problem, social, educational and economic problems. Therefore, Myanmar medical doctor association has been working on awareness projects targeting youth, such as Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health, so that young people can get access to inclusive and appropriate knowledge on sexual and reproductive health.
To name a few, a training project like “Comprehensive Sexuality Education” that teaches young people to stay healthy and happy, and “Youth Leader Training” that equips young people with communication and presentation skills are the projects that are intended to enhance youth’s capacity.
In addition to peer to peer knowledge sharing programs and holding awareness trainings and workshops for youth, telephone hot lines and social media like Facebook pages are also created and available for the youth from remote areas to get access to councelling and knowledge sharing services. This small booklet, “The Illuminating Youth, the Star of the future” is also published with the intention of sharing the knowledge mentioned above with our friends.
