TAI YOUTH ORGANIZATION

The Tai Youth Organization (TYO) was founded on April 24, 2013, and registered in 2015 to operate in Shan State. Its registration was updated in 2021 until 2025. As one of the active Shan Ethnic Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), TYO is headquartered in Taunggyi Township of Shan State, and it operates statewide. Its primary objective is to enhance the capacities of youth groups to promote community mobilization and resilience among Shan communities. The organization’s physical address is 142, Loi Kham Street, Lane – 11, Payarphyu Quarter, Taunggyi, Shan State, Myanmar.

TYO aims to further develop the socio-economic livelihood and healthcare of the community, improve job opportunities and access to higher education by utilizing local knowledge and skills developed and possessed by public interests, support the creation of an environmentally responsible agricultural market, promote cohesiveness and harmony among Shan State’s youth through social activities and awareness raising, and preserve local culture and literature.

As we work across all of Shan State, the Tai Youth Organization (TYO) aims to achieve the following goals:

1. further develop the socio-economic livelihood and healthcare of the community;

2. improve job opportunities and access to higher education by utilizing local knowledge and skills developed and possessed by public interests;

3. support the creation of an environmentally responsible agricultural market;

4. foster friendship, cohesiveness, and harmony among the youth of Shan State through social activities and awareness raising; and

5. preserve local culture and literature.

From 2017 to 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, TYO conducted various youth capacity building activities, including leadership training, basic computer training, sewing training for young women, communication training, Start and Improve Your Business training for young people, and providing ASRH awareness to young people in hard-to-reach areas. Currently, TYO is partnering with Relief International to implement the ASRH project and Women and Girl First program in Southern Shan State, specifically in Mawk Mai Township, Lai Hka Township, Mong Kung, Kay Thi Township, and Khun Hein Township, focusing mostly on hard-to-reach areas. Additionally, TYO is collaborating with SDC to support Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Southern Shan State.
