Position : Engineer
Location : Based at Taunggyi and frequent travel to field offices
Department : Program
Supervisor : Reports to Program Manager and Managing Director
Scope of Work
• Participate in community needs assessments and assist with assessment data collection for any
infrastructure construction or renovation
• Analyze the collected data for designing and developing BoQs and support accurate drawings, detailed
BoQ and technical specifications of infrastructure
• Consult the infrastructure designs with relevant stakeholders including communities, institution and
donor before being implemented
• Ensure that the local resources (construction workers, materials, etc.) are used as far as the standard
is met.
• Identify local contractors, carpenters, or masons for carrying out construction activities
• Support the daily PCM of all construction and infrastructure projects within project area ensuring the
quality and standards as specified.
• Ensure that the progress of construction work is on schedule as planned and adequate safety
procedures are followed during construction work
• Provide and assist with technical support, detailed construction instructions and share basic
construction knowledge to local contractors if necessary
• Elaborate timely field visit report to inform about evaluation, performance of the construction
activities.
• Produce and submit to the line manager a monthly work plan and progress report for the construction
progress (site photos, challenges, etc.,) in the monthly basic.
• Make regular back-ups of all data worked and ensure that all data entry team is fully acknowledging
the correct procedures for the data entry.
• Work closely with program staff throughout the construction process planning and implementation
• Liaise with other relevant sectors of TYO such as programme, community services, emergency
response, WASH, administration and supply.
• Coordinate and plan timely with Logistics team for procurement of materials as per the TYO logistic
and administrative procedure and with Finance for payment processing and other payment-related
issues if required.
• Liaise and coordinate at field level with other organizations as required.
• Establish a good relationship with the members of the community and local functionaries (community
leaders, teacher, others)
• Organize and participate in coordination meetings with community and local functionaries.
Required skills
• Experience in construction and renovation, with background of community-based infrastructure
development
• Auto Cad and Microsoft basic application
• AGTI/ B.tech/ B.E (civil)
• Understanding of local situation of conflict affected area
• Flexible, adaptable, willing, and able to travel and stay in the field with minimal basic facilities.
• Fluent in Burmese and Shan language.
• English language skills a bonus
• Good interpersonal and team working skills;
• Knowledge and understanding of Shan context required.
