“Embrace Change: Shaping Tomorrow Today.”
In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, technology plays a crucial role in addressing various societal issues. One such commendable initiative is the mobile application named “Change,” designed to empower and educate adolescents about sexual reproductive health. This application aims to break barriers, provide accurate information, and promote a healthy lifestyle among the youth.
The primary purpose of the “Change” mobile application to bring together the information gap surrounding adolescent sexual reproductive health. By making available and age-appropriate content in both local languages and English, the app aims to empower young people with the knowledge and resources they need so that they can make informed decisions regarding their sexual health.
Since its launch, the “Change” app has witnessed significant achievements in terms of user engagement and impact on the target audience. With over 50 downloads on the Google Play Store and over 100 offline sharing within the first 3 months, it has garnered widespread recognition for its contribution to the field of sexual health education.
As we have observed until today, many reproductive health issues remain stigmatized, and there are still individuals who perceive them negatively. Consequently, accessibility to adolescent health and reproductive knowledge for young people is limited. To address this, numerous small-scale initiatives were introduced through the Change Mobile Application, aiming to alter misconceptions about health in the village and make this information more accessible to the youth.
The Launch of the Change Mobile Application was held in October, 2023 by Tai Youth Organization and was attended by teenagers and people who work in the health field. After the event, as of the latest available data, the “Change” app boasts an impressive over 200 downloads on the Google Play Store and over 500 on offline sharing (e.g., Zapya). This number reflects the growing demand for accessible and comprehensive sexual health information among the adolescent population.
The “Change” app has proven to be an invaluable resource for our beneficiaries in communities, offering a range of features that cater to the specific needs of adolescents. The app provides age-appropriate information on topics such as puberty, safe sex, contraception, sexually transmitted infections, and healthy relationships. Additionally, users can access live chat in the app and ask about adolescent health with confidentiality. In this live chat platform, users do not need to register for login, which means they can ask freely without sharing personal information.
The “Change” app boasts a user-friendly interface with sections dedicated to various aspects of sexual health education. Users can explore informative articles about Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) in different categories with different languages (Shan, English, Burmese). Moreover, users also can explore other health articles that do not focus on ASRH, as well as articles about youth that are essential.
In conclusion, the “Change” mobile application of the Tai Youth Organization stands as a pioneering force in addressing the challenges surrounding adolescent sexual reproductive health. And ongoing commitment to breaking down societal barriers, “Change” continues to empower the youth with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their sexual health. As we move forward, the impact of this innovative app is sure to leave a lasting mark on the well-being and education of adolescents in our communities, leading to a better life.
